Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

Focusing on harder things.

When I creepily Stumble through blogs, I always want to know more about the people whose blogs I'm reading. That's what this blog is for--it will list the things I like so as to create a picture of me while simultaneously forcing me to search out and name things I enjoy.

Note: Most of these are not my pictures and have been found randomly on Google or Flickr.

I like Coldstone Creamery.

This totally doesn't count as a food--it's a place! It's an amazing ice creamery that lets you select all kinds of ingredients (cake, cookie dough, all sorts of candy, fruit and cookies) to be mixed in to your ice cream (they have great flavors, too). I usually get vanilla ice cream with strawberries and yellow cake mixed in. They use metal scoops and a warm marble slab and fold the ingredients in to the ice cream until it's a delicious mixture of awesome happiness. Kind of on the expensive side but definitely worth it. A special ice cream treat!

I like the Internet.

Oh look! Not a food! The Internet, as well all undoubtedly know, is amazing and has changed the world forever. Information is easily, quickly accessible and you can talk to almost anyone virtually instantly. The possibilities of things you can do with the Internet are endless and new tools and ideas are being developed all the time. I can play games, talk to friends, find out all sorts of information, listen to radio stations across the world, and do so many other amazing things.

I like rice.

One of my favorite things to eat (though, by my other entries, it looks like I enjoy almost every food item). Sticky and nutty and healthy and perfect. I prefer rice over a potato or noodle side. It makes me feel healthy and it fills me up in a way that makes me feel content rather than weighed down. It is great with a lot of things (teriyaki sauce!!!!) and comes with some of my favorite types of food--Japanese and Chinese!

I like strawberries.

Strawberries used to be my favorite fruit (they have recently been replaced by raspberries which is sort of sad since raspberries are significantly more expensive and less hearty than strawberries). They are juicy and sweet but not too sweet, have a nice bite, and, of course, make me think of spring and summer. They are perfect with ice cream and my favorite way to have them is either simply sliced with a little sugar or with shortcake biscuits! Yum. Maybe a little homemade whipped cream, too. Oh goodness, now I'm hungry and it's not strawberry season! No worries--I can just have a strawberry smoothie!

I like tea.

I don't drink coffee so my warm caffeine drink of choice is good ol' tea. I prefer black tea (green tea is shown, though) because it makes me think of England and, I guess, because it's the type of tea I drank as a little girl, pretending I was sophisticated and grown up. I like my tea with a lot of milk and no sugar--no need for sweetness! English Breakfast is probably my favorite blend but I of course like Earl Grey and Oolong. On the side I prefer tea cookies to dip in, taking them out just before they get so mushy they fall into the tea. Yum yum yum!

I like peach cobbler.

Yum yum yum yum! Buttery and sweet but refined and comforting at the same time. I can't get enough of it. Peaches are one of my favorite fruits and are certainly my favorite cobbler (or pie) filling. They mean summer and make me think of eating outside. The cobbler is a culmination of these fabulous fruits, combining them with delicious crust and, sometimes, ice cream! I just cannot say "yum" enough.

I like mountains.

Mountains are steeped in adventure and serenity. Majestic and awe-inspiring, they show us just how unexpected nature's products can be. They mean hiking and snow and forests and camping and they also make a dull, ordinary horizon extraordinary. They elicit the feeling of endless possibilities that I've been talking about, making me feel like I can make anything happen. They make me stop and stare.

I like tulips.

My favorite flowers. Early bloomers in spring, brightly colored, sweet smelling--again, I don't feel like I need to say more to convince anyone. They just scream sunny and warm! Tulips are perfect in almost every way (voles, moles, and other pests like to eat their bulbs) and are my personal symbol of spring, making me look forward to it every year.

I like Home.

(this is my picture)

Ahh. Home. After being away at school for a long time, it is always nice to come home to my house, my family and my bed. I like the familiarity, the memories, and the comfort of home and I will really miss it when I move out (eventually!). If I could have it my way, the house would always stay in the family and never change but, unless I want to make that happen and live there myself, that will most likely not happen. But no worries--there will always be another Home!

I like driving with the windows down.

Completely invigorating. The wind running through your hair, sunglasses on, music up, singing loud. What more do I need to say--it's amazing! I especially like to drive around town with my windows down since it's at lower speeds and you can stop at stoplights and sing and dance and have fun, maybe seeing someone you know and dancing with them across the road! Definitely one of my favorite things--makes me feel alive and happy to be so.

I like traveling.

(this is my picture)

Whoops! This sort of overlaps with the I like packing post. Oh well. I love to travel. There are so many places I want to go and so many things I want to see so traveling is how I do that (obviously!). I bring a small suitcase of things from my life and then transport myself into a whole new world. Sometimes I'm just visiting (mentally and physically) and sometimes I have already chosen to come back and live in the place I am only visiting.

Place is very closely tied to self for me. One place creates a different person than another place and that applies to one body as well: I am not the same person living in at home that I am living in Alaska. Traveling, then, makes me feel like the world is full of endless possibilities, endless lives that I could have. This is both overwhelming and invigorating. I could visit anywhere I wanted. I could be one of gazillion different Margo's if I only changed my location. While knowing that I will have to choose one (or at least only a few) of the possibilities in the end is somewhat depressing, knowing that I can choose and experience multiple versions of myself is the sort of inspiration and curiosity I need in life.

I like packing.

This applies to both packing clothes for a trip and packing boxes to move someplace new. I like to organize and go through my things, putting them in logical places and then labeling the boxes. I like folding and planning ahead. I like the fact that packing means something new is going to happen. Packed boxes mean a new house to decorate and make new memories in. Packed suitcases mean a new adventure in a new place. It makes me feel like I am moving forward, making progress. This time I am packing to go to a new place--I am going to Alaska for the summer and I'm keeping a blog so you should follow along with my adventures!

I like ice cream.

I can't believe I held off so long on this one: ice cream is literally my favorite thing in the world. This includes all variations: gelato, frozen yogurt, soft served, frozen custard, all of it. I love the creaminess, the subtle sweetness, the variety of flavors and the cool, milky bite it provides. I could eat ice cream at all times of the day and it is what I would choose if I had to choose one food that I would eat everyday. Though I do feel guilty most times when I eat ice cream (so fatty...), I cannot help myself and occasionally get carried away. But, you know, for my favorite thing in the world I think I can indulge myself a bit.

I like to drink water--only water.

This one falls under "refreshing" again. I have never been a fan of soda (I guess we never had it often when I was growing up so I never got used to drinking it and now the carbonation gives me a burning sensation on my tongue and in my throat when I drink it) and used to only drink milk but now the only drink that truly refreshes me and quenches my thirst is water. Cool, clean water. There is no taste like it (yes, water has a taste). It energizes my whole body, trickling down into my stomach and recharging molecules as it goes. Ahh.

I like sleeping.

Oh goodness do I like to sleep. I don't usually sleep for more than 9 hours (even on the weekend) but, when I am sleeping, it is glorious. Feeling relaxed and rested and in a state of pleasurable stasis are all things I love about sleeping. It is an acceptable excuse to do nothing and, when done correctly, quiets my mind and allows me to truly relax.

As of April 18, 2010, I have become aware of the very popular blog 1000 Awesome Things which is, unfortunately, very similar to this blog. I admire and eagerly read Neil's posts but I hope you can see the differences and know that I did not intend to do anything so similar--great minds just think alike!
