Perhaps a strange thing to like (or at least point out) but today I bought dinnerware to bring to school (I have a kitchen this semester) so it was applicable. I like looking at the patterns and envisioning them in my imaginary house on my imaginary dining table. It makes me feel "grown up" and sophisticated though, come to think of it, imagining things and liking pretty colors aren't typically things associated with being either "grown up" OR sophisticated. Oh well!

Hands down my favorite cake in the world. Simple, just the right amount of sweet (if you haven't noticed, I'm a big fan of subtly sweet things rather than really artificially sweet things like icing which I typically hate) and moist and fluffy, fluffy, fluffy. I asked my mom if she could make me poppyseed cake for when I get home from Alaska and she said yes!

The perfect version of french fries is the curly one. They are just the right amount of crunchy and moist with that extra something that the curly shape gives to the whole experience. Sometimes they are lightly seasoned and delicious as delicious gets. And, of course, there's always the one that is perfect to wear as a ring!

Mmm. This post came after my mom and I got back from a road trip to Denali, Alaska (she came to visit me!). On our way we stopped in Talkeetna and ate at the Roadhouse which made these AMAZING berry pancakes that are probably the best pancakes I've ever had. There were fresh berries inside them and maple syrup and they were huge and amazing and that's all I can really say. Pancakes are great food--subtly sweet, a good canvas for a lot of flavors, and their fluffy goodness makes the best breakfast.

Alaska is an amazing place. Most people see it via a cruise and I guess that gives you a good idea of the state but I am here for a whole summer. I'm in Anchorage with an internship and a job and as I walk around the city, I can turn a corner and see an amazing mountain range in the not-so-distant distance. I can drive (theoretically--I don't have a car up here) for 20 minutes and be completely isolated from the world. It's wild, raw, untamed, limitless, refreshing, invigorating and makes me excited for adventures to come.
